Andrew
Andrew Sugerman has been practicing yoga for 13 years. He traveled to India in 2000 to study at the Krisnamacarya Yoga Mandiram in Madras, India under the tutelage of T.K.V.Desikachar and his senior students. That experience ignited in him a desire to teach yoga. Andrew went on to more advanced study with the premier American Viniyoga teacher, Gary Kraftsow, director of the American Viniyoga Institute, located in Maui, Hawaii. After many trips to Maui, Kraftsow certified him to teach yoga in 2003; then as a yoga therapist in 2005.
Andrew started out teaching yoga to groups, but the highly personalized, therapeutic nature of his training organically evolved toward one to one private work. Over the years, he has worked with and helped people who fall across the spectrum of issues and illnesses, physical, mental, and emotional. In addition to his private practice, he is the staff yoga therapist for H & D Physical Therapy, a practice committed to the highest quality of individual patient care. Andrew leads workshops inernationally, and has taught yoga in the New York-Presbyterian psychiatric rehabilitation program.
Andrew studied yoga philosophy and memorizing the Yogasutra with Srivatsa Ramaswami of Chennai, a long time student of T. Krisnamacarya. He studied anatomy with Kriota Willberg, and Leslie Kaminoff. Andrew is on the teaching staff at the American Viniyoga Institute, assisting Kraftsow training teachers in Snowbird, Utah, Austin, Texas, and Watsonville, California. He has assisted Kraftsow at Kripalu in Lenox, MA; Omega in Rhinebeck, NY; Cityoga in Indianapolis, IN; Yoga Journal Conferences in New York .
